The bankruptcy qualification process starts with a “means test” which is based on your income and monthly expenses. While everyone qualifies under Chapter 13, this test helps ensure that only people who genuinely cannot afford their debts can file for Chapter 7. In addition, you must attend approved credit counseling within 180 days before you file bankruptcy.
